ETNOBOTANY LORE AND ANCIENT PARTICLES
The International Union of Conservation of Nature lists Rosewood species Aniba rosaedora and Dalbergia abrahamii as "endangered." In October 2016, the UN CITES included more than 250 rosewood species within its protection framework that include a system of quotas and permits because of the tremendous volume of goods made with this timber – from musical instruments and luxury furniture to essential oils and cosmetics. In Brazil, newer management practices harvest young stems when rosewood is 10 years of age instead of 20 and do not involve felling the whole tree. This technique allows for more sustainable practices for procuring rosewood oil.
