Spike Lavander was commonly called "aspic - a Greek term meaning "Egyptian cobra" because it was historically used against the venom of the asp. In the Middle Ages, herbalists used spike lavender for head pains, convulsions, cramps, and swelling. Cooking it in a wine would reduce pain in the liver, lungs, and stiffness in the chest. It was also one of the ingredients of Oleum Spicae to treat old sprains and stiff joints.
