The name comes from the Greek words "helios" (sun) and "chrysos" (gold), referring to the flower blooming like "golden suns." The oil is distilled primarily in the Balkans region and has become popular in aromatherapy in the 1990s. As 1 tonne of flowers produce at most 1.5Kg of oil, it is very expensive. In herbal medicine, it has been used to treat bronchitis, asthma, cough, burns, psoriasis, allergies, migraines, and liver issues, and usually administered as tea (decoction or infusion).
